Welcome to our Summer Suitcase Series, where we’re catching up with brand founders about their summer plans and what they’re bringing along. Next up is Kalani Miller, the co-founder of cult-favorite swimwear line MIKOH. As a mom who's always on the move—Kalani spends much of the year beach-hopping with her partner, pro surfer Kelly Slater—we wanted to know how she maintains her signature beachy glow on the go.

Do you have any travel plans this summer?
Yes! We already spent some time in Cabo and are getting ready for an adventure in Hawaii, Fiji, and Australia. I love being in California and spending time with family and driving up and down the coast. I forgot how much I love summer in California—with the cool, crisp ocean water and the perfectly breezy air.
What’s your approach to self-care while traveling?
We spend the majority of the year on the road, so I take my same self-care routine with me everywhere. Having clean, high-quality products that are multi-use is essential. I spend so much time in the sun and salt that it’s important for me to prioritize my skincare routine and give it lots of love. I really look forward to lathering up in my favorite products at the end of the day. It’s a ritual I don’t falter on.
Are you more of a packing minimalist or maximalist?
I think somewhere in the middle—since having a baby, I feel like the personal area of the suitcase has been majorly streamlined. But at the same time, I like to have everything we could possibly need—because no one wants to be stressing at 2 a.m. on a random Tuesday because they have an upset stomach or a stuffy nose! I come prepared, which maybe adds a suitcase or so, but is a non-negotiable for me.
As a founder, what’s one lesson you always come back to?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. There is someone that is always going to be more knowledgeable, so it’s nice to get guidance and advice from them. We are so lucky to be surrounded by amazing mentors and people who support us.
Is summer a time for you to slow down—or do it all?
Do it all 24/7. I feel like I’m always on! It’s rare for me to be in super down mode—I feel like from when I wake up to when I go to bed it’s just on. Especially with being a new mom, it truly is 24/7! I love the full days, though.

Kalani's Packing List

1. Oak Essentials Moisture Rich Balm: Literally the GOAT of balms and moisturizers. I am obsessed with this—everything from the scent to the moisturized shine, this is the perfect product.

2. Oak Essentials Awaken Body Wash: I love Awaken Body Wash after a long day. I feel like I’m transported to a spa, and it leaves my skin feeling clean and ready to take on the day. Or a long night!

3. Oak Essentials Ritual Oil: I have a thing for Blue Tansy, and this oil combined with Moisture Rich Balm is the best duo. After a long day in the sun, this oil really seals in moisture and the smell is just magical.

Kalani's Packing List

4. MIKOH Swimsuit: Of course. I always make sure I have at least one (or ten) suits with me, even in a cold climate. You never know when you’re going to have the chance for an ocean dip!

5. Kindle: This is a great way to travel with a ton of books without being weighed down. I haven’t had as much of a chance to read lately, but this is always on the top of my list.

6. Jenni Kayne Crochet Raffia Sun Hat: I love a big, wide brimmed hat—my mom instilled in me to never leave home without one.

7. Freaks of Nature Sunscreen: I always have a nice layer of sunscreen on. I’m loving my boyfriend’s brand, Freaks of Nature. It’s reef safe and clean!
