OUR SPF INGREDIENT GLOSSARY
The UV Filter
This is the ingredient that does the heavy lifting—providing 100% mineral UV protection.
Non-Nano Zinc Oxide: A mineral UV filter with particles larger than 100 nanometers, ensuring they stay on the skin’s surface without absorbing. It helps protect against both UVA and UVB rays for broad-spectrum coverage.
The Base and Solvents
These ingredients form the foundation of the formula—helping it stay stable, spread evenly, and feel hydrating on the skin.
Water (Aqua): The formula’s main carrier.
Butylene Glycol: A humectant and solvent that helps draw in hydration while slightly dissolving ingredients, so they distribute evenly.
Pentylene Glycol: A humectant that also supports formula stability.
Glycerin: A classic humectant that helps pull moisture into the skin for a soft, plump feel.
The Emollients
You’ve probably heard the term before. In a sunscreen, emollients help the formula glide on more easily while also softening and conditioning the skin.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: A lightweight emollient that helps moisturize and soften without feeling heavy.
Dimethicone: A silicone that adds smooth slip whiling helping support the skin barrier.
Cetearyl Alcohol: A fatty alcohol that helps thicken the formula while leaving the skin feeling soft.
Palmitic Acid & Stearic Acid: Fatty acids that help create a creamy texture and condition the skin.
Tocopheryl Acetate: A form of Vitamin E that helps provide antioxidant support.
The Emulsifiers
These ingredients help oil- and water-based components stay blended—so the formula feels smooth, creamy, and stable.
Cetearyl Olivate & Sorbitan Olivate: A pair of olive-derived emulsifiers that help create a silky, uniform texture.
Cetearyl Glucoside: A plant-derived emulsifier that helps keep the formula evenly mixed and easy to spread.
Potassium Cetyl Phosphate: A stabilizing emulsifier that helps the texture stay consistent and prevent separation.
Sodium Olivate: An olive-derived surfactant that helps oils and water stay blended for a smoother application.
The Texture Enhancers
These ingredients helps fine-tune the feel and the finish of the formula, while stabilizing the Non-Nano Zinc Oxide.
Silica: A powder that helps absorb excess oil and reduce shine.
Triethoxycaprylylsilane: A coating agent that helps the Non-Nano Zinc Oxide disperse more evenly for smoother application.
Xanthan Gum & Guar Gum: Natural thickeners that help give the formula structure.
Fructooligosaccharides, Xylitol, Anhydroxylitol, & Xylitylglucoside: A hydration complex that helps condition the skin for a soft, supple feel.
Citric Acid: A pH adjuster that helps keep the formula balanced and stable.
The Key Botanicals
Unlike traditional sunscreens, ours is formulated with a few curated botanicals to provide real, skincare-level benefits. Many help defend against oxidative stress from UV exposure, which is one of the factors that can contribute to premature signs of aging.
Bioflavonoids: Present in Desert Succulent Botanicals, these plant-derived antioxidants help hydrate and support healthier-looking skin.
Glycoproteins: Also present in Desert Succulent Botanicals, these skin conditioning compounds also help ensure a soft, comfortable skin-feel.
Pongamia Pinnata Seed Extract: Also known as Indian Beech Tree Seed Extract, this antioxidant-rich botanical extract helps protect the skin from environmental stressors like dry air and harsh weather.
Phytic Acid: This plant-derived chelating agent helps bind pro-oxidant metals and provide antioxidant support.
The Pacific Greens Scent
With notes of Green Tea, Cucumber, and Plumeria, our Pacific Greens scent has a clean, crisp, and refreshing effect.
Fragrance (Parfum): In our ingredient list, the term “fragrance” represents a proprietary blend—protected as a trade secret to preserve the uniqueness of our scents. Rest assured that all our fragrances are certified by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA), which upholds rigorous safety standards based on scientific assessment of health and environmental impacts.
Citrus Limon Peel Oil: A citrus essential oil that adds a bright, fresh note.
Cedrus Atlantica Oil/Extract: A cedar-derived extract that adds a clean, grounding note.
Limonene, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Citral, Benzyl Salicylate, Beta-Caryophyllene, Pinene, & Geranyl Acetate: In fragrance blends containing naturally derived essential oils, we follow the European Union standard for disclosing known fragrance allergens directly on our ingredient list.
