Five Years of Oak
Five years ago, Oak Essentials began with a simple question: what if skincare could support us as we age, instead of asking us to fight it? Founder Jenni Kayne started the brand out of her own desire for skin longevity — not a quick fix, but a long-term relationship with her skin, built on formulas thatactually investin it over time. That question has quietly shaped everythingwe'vemadesince.
Staying True to Our Name
The name was created intentionally, to represent all we stand for. "Oak" stands for longevity, strength, and honesty, the same qualities we wanted people to feel in the formulas themselves. "Essentials" was a promise, too — that we'd only make what truly works, nothing more.
That idea, doing less and making it better, sounds simple. In practice, it's meant saying no to trends more often than saying yes, and trusting that a smaller, more intentional collection would serve people better than a crowded one ever could.
What We've Learned
If there's one thing five years has taught us, it's that our community craves what’s real. Time and again, you've told us that what you value most isn't the promise of turning back the clock — it's feeling like your skin, and your routine, are finally being met where they actually are.
That's part of why we've never been afraid to talk about the realities of changing skin — perimenopause, menopause, the hormonal shifts that so much of the industry still tiptoes around. We've learned that naming those things openly, without shame, builds more trust than pretending they don't exist. It's not anti-aging. It's aging well.
We've also learned the value of ritual itself. So many of you have told us that the few minutes spent massaging in a balm, or letting a mist settle over your skin, or sinking into a warm bath, aren't wasted time — they're some of the only moments in a day that belong entirely to you. Jenni feels this too. As she's said about her own wind-down routine, a warm bath is "the kind of wellness routine that pays dividends, helping me feel grounded long after I've stepped out of the water." That's the kind of return on investment we've always cared about most — not just visible results, but a few minutes of feeling like yourself again.
More Than Just Skin Deep
One of the changes we're proudest of didn't happen in a lab — it happened around a table. This year, we welcomed the Oak Advisory Council: a group of dermatologists, women's health experts, and longevity practitioners who now help guide how we think, formulate, and talk about skin as it ages. It's not a marketing flourish. It's an acknowledgment that the questions our community asks us — about hormonal shifts, about what's actually happening beneath the surface, about what's worth doing and what isn't — deserve real expertise behind the answers, not just good intentions.
If the first five years were about building formulas we trusted, this council is about making sure you can trust them too — for reasons rooted in real research, not just our word for it.
The Next Five Years—and Beyond
We're not interested in chasing every new ingredient trend or expanding just to take up more shelf space. The next five years will look a lot like the first: listening closely to what you, your skin and your life actually need, and only adding to the collection when something truly earns its place. Skin longevity isn't a campaign for us — it's the whole point. As our skin changes season to season, decade to decade, we want Oak to be one of the few constants that changes alongside it, never against it.
We also want to keep showing up for this community in ways that go beyond the products themselves — through the conversations we have, the questions we answer honestly, and the small rituals we help make space for in your day.
Only Gratitude
Building something built to last takes patience, and our community has given us that in return, again and again.
So thank you — for the routines you've built around us, for the trust you've extended along the way, and for believing, the same way Jenni does, that aging isn't a flaw to fix but a chapter to embrace. Here's to the next five years, built the same way as the first: with intention, with honesty, and with a little less — done a lot better.
Five years ago, I started Oak Essentials with a simple question: what if skincare could support us as we age, instead of asking us to fight it? I wanted a long-term relationship with my skin, not a quick fix — formulas that actually invest in it over time. That question has quietly shaped everything we've made since.
What I Set Out to Do
I never set out to build the biggest skincare line. I set out to build the right one — a tightly edited collection of products people would actually reach for every day, ones that earn a permanent spot on the counter rather than a drawer. I chose the name "Oak" for a reason: it stands for longevity, strength, and honesty, the same qualities I wanted people to feel in the formulas themselves. "Essentials" was a promise, too — that we'd only make what truly works, nothing more.
That idea, doing less better, sounds simple. In practice, it's meant saying no to trends more often than saying yes, and trusting that a smaller, more intentional collection would serve people better than a crowded one ever could.
What I've Learned
If there's one thing five years has taught me, it's that our community doesn't want to be sold a fantasy. She wants a partner. Time and again, you've told me that what you value most isn't the promise of turning back the clock — it's feeling like your skin, and your routine, are finally being met where they actually are.
That's part of why I've never been afraid to talk about the realities of changing skin — perimenopause, menopause, the hormonal shifts that so much of the industry still tiptoes around. That's the kind of return on investment I've always cared about most — not just visible results, but a few minutes of feeling like myself again.
Even the most ordinary moments in a day have turned out to hold more than I expected. The shower has always been my place to reset — and that's really the story of Oak in miniature: taking something you'd do anyway and turning it into something that actually restores you. Five years in, I still believe that small investments in your skin really do add up. Not overnight, and not with any single product — but with the quiet accumulation of showing up for yourself, day after day.
A Council to Lean On

Where I'm Going

In Gratitude
Building something built to last takes patience, and our community has given us that in return, again and again.
Thank you to all the people who trusted a new, small collection with their skin, who told their friends, who wrote in with questions and stuck around for the answers.
Looking back on it: I started Oak because I wanted to grow old with my skin, not fight against it. Five years later, what surprises me most isn't how much we've built — it's how many people decided to grow alongside us. That's the part I never take for granted.
So thank you — for the routines you've built around us, for the trust you've extended along the way, and for believing, the same way I do, that aging isn't a flaw to fix but a chapter to embrace. Here's to the next five years, built the same way as the first: with intention, with honesty, and with a little less — done a lot better.
