In honor of Mother’s Day, we caught up with Stone Cold Fox founder and designer Cyd Morris to talk about self-care and what motherhood looks like the second time around. And her answers? Refreshingly real. Keep reading as Cyd tells us how she finds presence in the little moments, like connecting with her kids during their evening bath.

As a mother to two little ones, how has the experience felt different for you this time around?
As much as it’s double the mental load to have two kids, it was a lot easier the second time around. I knew what to expect and I was much more relaxed as a mother. I knew that those really hard nights and phases pass. It used to overwhelm me so much, but I sort of leaned into it the second time around and enjoyed the little moments because I knew how fleeting they were.
What does bath time look like in your house? Do you see it as an opportunity for bonding?
We do special baths every night, with popsicles usually! I find that this is the time where my kids talk most about their days. I love hearing the little details you don’t get on the drive home, and getting their bodies clean. I sit on a big chair next to the bath and help wash the big school day off of them.
Do baths play a role in your own self-care routine, too?
They sure do, they’re a big stress reliever for me. Usually on Sundays, I take some alone time for myself. I love to put on jazz music, light candles, fill the bath with soaks and salts and close my eyes. Some little feet usually end up joining me about 5 minutes in.
Which Oak products are you reaching for most these days? How do you like to use them?
I’m a big fan of the Restorative Mask! I use it about once a week and it makes me glow without being drying. I also love the Moisture Rich Balm and have one in my bag at all times for under my eyes or the tops of my hands. And Dream Bath Soak has a lovely smell—plus, it’s incredible to use before applying Dew Body Oil.
If you only had five minutes to ground yourself during the day, how would you choose to spend that time?
A shower really resets me, or a quick walk around the block, or I love to put on a good face mask on and watch Ina Garten. I find cooking shows a relaxing way to tune out.
If your kids could take away one thing from watching how you care for yourself, what do you hope it is?
That hygiene is important, as is taking care of your teeth and skin (with sunscreen). And staying clean makes for a great night’s sleep! Caring for yourself, your only beautiful body, is so important for many facets of life.
