What are the benefits of sauna bathing?
Sauna bathing offers a myriad of benefits. Heat shock proteins (HSPs) play crucial roles in cell regeneration, repair, and immune system modulation, enhancing recovery and overall health. Research has shown that sauna sessions can increase red blood cell volume, improving subsequent performance in physical activities. Regular sauna use has also been linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases and dementia. Moreover, saunas promote circulation, aiding in toxin removal and reducing inflammation through anti-inflammatory responses and increased antioxidant production.
And cold plunging?
Cold plunging, or cold water immersion (CWI), has its own set of benefits. CWI has been shown to enhance athletic performance and reduce muscle soreness post-exercise. It stimulates mitochondrial activity, which can aid in weight management. Additionally, CWI boosts immune function, while also reducing stress and improving cognitive function. Its ability to trigger the release of endorphins makes it beneficial for overall mental well-being.
How and why should these treatments be used together?
Combining sauna bathing and cold plunges strategically amplifies their individual benefits. Alternating between heat and cold prevents the body from adapting too quickly, ensuring continuous responsiveness to these therapeutic methods. This contrast therapy not only enhances thermoregulation and metabolic activity but also improves stress management and mental well-being over time. The synergy between sauna bathing and cold plunging accelerates muscle recovery, enhances circulation, activates brown fat for weight management, revitalizes energy levels, and promotes skin vitality.
When it came time to design the wellness trio at the Oak Wellness Club—which consists of the sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub—the Jenni Kayne Interiors Team was eager to create a self-care haven tucked away on the Jenni Kayne Farmhouse property. With the sauna, cold plunge, and hot tub, they dedicated a space within the landscape that really allows guests to unwind.
