As a brand consultant and the curator behind 91 Lane—a fashion and beauty Substack featuring conversations with inspired creatives—Laura Pleitéz Rifkin has a keen eye for what’s worth adding to her routine. Today, she lets us in her on-the-go favorites, morning rituals, and the clean deodorant that’s earned a permanent spot on her bathroom shelf.

In general, how do you approach your skincare and body care routines?
I try to prioritize consistency over anything else, even on the days when I’m really exhausted and the last thing on my mind is the act of a beauty ritual. I know my future self will thank me one day!
When adding new products to your rotation, how do you discern the good from the great?
Greatness is in the details. I’m a very visual person, so I must admit I’m drawn to new products by face value just like the next person, but once I quickly get past that, I care about the ingredients. I know something is great when I can’t stop reaching for it because that means it’s working.
What do you always keep in your purse during a busy day?
Mattifying papers! I’m particular to the ones Chanel makes—they come as a little booklet with a mirror attached. They’re a must if you have combination skin like mine. I also like to carry some kind of travel-sized fragrance, a lip liner, and lip balm—just in case my lipstick wears off after a meal and I’m in desperate need of a quick touch-up.
Why is clean deodorant important to you?
Above anything, I want to have peace of mind about what goes on/in my body—especially when it comes to my underarms. A lot of toxins are filtered through the lymph nodes of the underarms, so it’s very important to me that I opt for a healthier alternative to conventional deodorants.
What makes this formula one you’d reach for daily?
The fact that it actually works! It’s been put to the test via my morning walks, Pilates, and heated yoga classes. It’s also creamy but it absorbs, which is key!
Do you think small rituals have the power to elevate our days?
Absolutely. My mornings wouldn’t feel as happy without a kiss from my husband right before he leaves for work or as wholesome without a belly rub as a wake-up call for my dog… Something I do for me is I like to make my bed each morning. A small accomplishment, but it sets the mood for the rest of my day and helps me build structure.
How do you sneak in self-care while on-the-go?
I never, ever forget to put SPF on the back of my hands before I drive. And I’m trying to get better about sipping water throughout the day.
